Es sollen drei Wärmepumpenmodule auf dem Gelände des Heizkraftwerk Süd der Energie- und Wasser Potsdam (Zum Heizwerk 20, 14478 Potsdam) betrieben werden. Die Wärme aus Wärmepumpen stellt einen wichtigen Beitrag zur Dekarbonisierung des Wärmenetzes der Stadt dar. Für die Unterbringung der Wärmepumpenmodule und ihrer peripheren Systeme ist der Neubau eines Gebäudes notwendig. Diese sogenannte Energiezentrale soll in drei Abschnitte unterteilt sein: im nördlichen Abschnitt sollen die drei Wärmepumpensysteme Platz finden, welche das Wärmepotenzial des Solewassers aus tiefengeothermischen Bohrungen ausnutzen sollen. Der mittlere Abschnitt dient der Unterbringung der Trafoanlagen. Im südlichen Abschnitt wird eine Lagerfläche vorgesehen, welche perspektivisch das Potential und den notwendigen Platz für Errichtung und Betrieb einer weiteren Wärmepumpe (zur Nutzung des Flusswassers) bietet.
