De tijdelijke brug moet de noodzakelijke verbinding garanderen voor zwakke weggebruikers tussen het stadscentrum en het NMBS-station, in afwachting van een duurzame oplossing voor de huidige bruginfrastructuur. De tijdelijke brug dient de verbinding voor zwakke weggebruikers tussen het stadscentrum en het station te verzekeren in afwachting van een definitieve oplossing op lange termijn. De bestaande Spiraalbrug vertoont structurele en functionele gebreken die zijn vastgesteld in technische inspectieverslagen. In afwachting van een definitieve oplossing wordt een tijdelijke brug voorzien met een minimale gebruiksduur van 5 jaar, met mogelijkheid tot verlenging. Het concrete budget is op heden nog niet volledig vastgelegd daar dit nog dient goedgekeurd te worden door de gemeenteraad. In de fase van de offerte zullen deze nader vermeld worden.
