Deze brug verbindt Maaseik (B) en Echt-Susteren (Nl) over de Gemeenschappelijke Maas. De huidige brug is verouderd en werd op basis van recent uitgevoerde inspecties ingedeeld in de categorie 4, wat betekent 'dringend aan te pakken'. Gelet hierop heeft de Vlaamse Waterweg nv een ontwerptraject opgestart voor de bouw van een nieuwe brug. Hierbij is de bouw van de nieuwe brug aangegrepen om de functionele relaties, maar ook de recreatieve, fiets- en voetvoorzieningen op de brug te optimaliseren. Inmiddels is in overleg met de belangrijkste stakeholders een uitvoeringsontwerp opgemaakt.
