Hierzu wurde gemeinsam mit dem Deutschen Olympischen Sportbund, der Staatskanzlei des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen und den anderen 15 potenziellen Ausrichterstädten vereinbart, am 19.04.2026 in allen Kommunen einen Ratsbürgerentscheid durchzuführen. Dieser Ratsbürgerentscheid wird als reine Briefwahl durchgeführt. In Krefeld sind für diesen Bürgerentscheid ca. 180.000 Personen stimmberechtigt.
