Waterschap Rivierenland is op basis van de Waterwet, Omgevingswet en provinciale verordeningen verplicht peilbesluiten vast te stellen. Daarnaast stelt het waterschap ook streefpeilenplannen vast voor gebieden waar het waarborgen van een vast peil niet mogelijk is. Het beheergebied van Waterschap Rivierenland is hiervoor opgedeeld in een veertiental peilbesluit/streefpeilenplangebieden. De daarin vastgestelde waterpeilen worden elke tien jaar herzien op basis van de GGOR methode. Dit is een methode die wordt gebruikt door het waterschap om waterbeheer af te stemmen op de behoeften van verschillende functies in een gebied, zoals landbouw, natuur en wonen. Bij het opstellen/ herzien van de peilbesluiten/streefpeilenplannen wenst Waterschap Rivierenland ontzorgd te worden.
