Auf Grund des Ersatzes der bestehenden Anlage HKWIII/A (vorhandene Gas-turbinenanlage (40 MWel/80 MWth) am Standort und der derzeitigen politischen Förderung von KWK-Anlagen im Zuge der Energiewende, hat die Stadtwerke Duisburg AG (SWDU) sich für die Errichtung einer neuen Erzeugungseinheit auf Basis von Gasmotoren (BHKW) entschieden. Das Projekt umfasst mehrere Teilprojekte, teils als Ersatz für die Altanlage, teils als Ergänzung zum bisherigen Erzeugungs-Portfolio. Das Gesamtprojekt trägt den Titel: "HKW III 2030". Zu dem Gesamtprojekt gehören die Teilprojekt TP01 BHKW, TP02 Großwärmepumpe, TP03 Elektrokessel und TP04 Zentrale E-Technik. Im Rahmen des Projektes HKW III 2030 müssen Baustelleneinrichtungsflächen aufbereitet werden.
