Il viendra en remplacement de l'EHPAD « Résidence de la Baïse », situé à Galan, spécialisé dans l'hébergement de personnes âgées souffrant de troubles du comportement, et qui accueille aujourd'hui environ 70 résidents. L'EHPAD de Galan est installé dans des bâtiments construits en 1973 qui pâtissent de désordres importants, et dont l'état de vétusté ne permet pas d'envisager la réhabilitation.
