Ook in Nederland leidde dit tot hernieuwde aandacht voor de bescherming van de vitale infrastructuur: de essentiële voorzieningen zoals gas, drinkwater, elektriciteit en communicatie waarop de samenleving dagelijks draait. Voor WML, als onderdeel van de drinkwatersector, heeft dit geleid tot middels een projectmatige aanpak de fysieke beveiliging van onze drinkwaterproductielocaties aantoonbaar te verbeteren. In de afgelopen jaren is gestart met het versterken van de beveiliging van de 57 productielocaties via organisatorische, bouwkundige en elektronische maatregelen (OBE). Middels een eerste proof of concept zijn reeds 14 locaties voorzien van deze verbeterde fysieke beveiliging. Met deze aanbesteding willen we de volgende 9 locaties (cluster 2) voorzien van de vernieuwde fysieke beveiliging. Deze locaties omvatten continu opererende drinkwaterproductie-installaties en bestaan uit een mix van grotere en kleinere installaties, zoals pompstations met bijbehorende puttenvelden en drukvermeerderingsinstallaties.
