Enerzijds zorgt deze ervoor dat al het afstromend hemelwater van de verhardingen kan worden opvangen en worden afgevoerd, anderzijds zorgt deze voor extra bergend vermogen in geval van hevige regenbuien. De watergang is bijna 7 km lang. In 2023 zijn alle slootprofielen ingemeten en is milieukundig (water)bodemonderzoek uitgevoerd. Hieruit bleek dat zowel het baggerspecie als de vast geworden waterbodem in meer of mindere mate verontreinigd is. Hierdoor kan het baggerspecie niet naast de watergang worden uitgespreid, maar moet direct worden afgevoerd.
