Der Umbau soll abschnittweise im laufenden Flugbetrieb umgesetzt werden. Die Bereiche der bestehenden Gastronomie sind nicht Teil der Neuplanung. Der koordinierte Ablauf von einzelnen Schritten ist zwingend einzuhalten, um den täglichen Fluggastverkehr nicht zu stören. Die Bestuhlung wird abschnittweise ausgetauscht. Als weitere markante Merkmale des neuen Aufenthaltskonzeptes wird es einen die Besucher durch das gesamte Terminal führenden Bodenbelag „Rhein“. Das Thema der Begrünung wird durch im Terminal angeordnete Bäume und Pflanzgefäße ausgeführt.
