Animalele au nevoie de o hrană sănătoasă care să fie proaspătă, variată, bogată în substanţe vitale, cu multe vitamine, săruri minerale, oligoelemente, aminoacizi, diferite substanţe de origine animală care să poată fi obţinute din consumul tainului şi care să asigure necesarul zilnic de nutrienţi. Efectuarea achiziţiei este importantă pentru a menţine o stare de sănătate corespunzătoare a animalelor şi pentru a asigura acestora cantitatea necesară de nutrienţi pentru o cât mai bună desfăşurare a proceselor fiziologice şi o cât mai bună exprimare a comportamentului.
