Es wurde zwischen den Jahren 1963 und 1971 erbaut, mehrfach erweitert und lange Zeit von einer Realschule genutzt. Mit dem Auslaufen der Realschule am 31.7.2016 nutzt die neue Schulform (Profilschule) die ehemaligen Gebäude. Um den Profilschulstandort in Ascheberg zu konzentrieren, wird die ehem. Hauptschule in Herben aufgegeben. Dafür müssen die Bestandsgebäude erweitert, umgebaut und saniert werden. Der neue Standort wird aus drei Gebäuden bestehen (Haus A (2), Haus B (3) und Haus C (1)) plus einem Wirtschaftsgebäude in leichter Bauweise.
