The 2025 iRAP survey provides an objective star rating of road safety, showing where the risk of serious collisions is highest across the network. Because the methods used in 2025 differ from those used in 2020, specialist analysis is urgently required to ensure the results are accurate, comparable and credible. Without this work, NH would be unable to report required safety metrics to DfT and ORR, would lose the ability to demonstrate progress on national road safety targets, and would lack the evidence needed to prioritise future safety investment.
