Of this target around 3 GW is due to district heating and I&C flexibility, leaving a total of around 7 - 9 GW coming from residential sources, predominantly EV charging. The ability of residential customers to provide flexibility is rapidly evolving with an increase in large capacity assets (EVs, heat pumps, batteries), hardware to enable access to flexibility (smart connections), and the development of propositions enabling customers to engage with flexibility services and obtain value. However, the extent to which this can contribute to the 7 - 9 GW of residential flexibility required by 2030 is uncertain.
