In 2021 a new Domestic Abuse Act (2021) was introduced and placed new duties on local authorities across England to ensure that victims of domestic abuse and their children could access the right support in safe accommodation when they need it. To support these duties, new burdens funding was allocated to Local Authorities. The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) have recently announced continuation of new burdens funding for 2025-26 to support Domestic Abuse initiatives. As a result, the Council wishes to commission a new, countywide, Community Based Support Service. Service aims include: o Raising awareness of domestic abuse in our local communities o Building resilience in communities in response to domestic abuse o Providing accessible support. o Providing opportunities to engage and support victim survivors earlier, thus reducing the number of domestic abuse incidents. o Reducing demand on statutory services. o Adopting a whole family and systems wide approach to domestic abuse The Council would therefore like, at this tentative stage in the development of proposals, and prior to formulating of any formal opportunities, to inform the market of our commissioning intentions and to consult on the content of the service specification.
