It is a partnership between the Mayor, Stockport Council, Greater Manchester Combined Authority, and Homes England and was the first MDC in the country to focus on redevelopment of a town centre. The Stockport MDC is tasked with delivering up to 4,000 new homes in the 130 acres of Stockport's Town Centre West (see Appendix 1) along with up to 1,000,000ft2 of new employment floorspace and the necessary social infrastructure, greenspace, and public realm required to support a growing residential population.
