In February 2023, the Leader of the former Scarborough Borough Council requested the installation of handrails to the A19 steps which were not considered to be on a main route. An estimate of £33k was provided by officers and on 8 March 2023 the Executive Management Team approved the installation of the handrails and the direct appointment of McCoy Engineering (Hull) Ltd. A budget code was provided by SBC Finance at the request of the Chief Executive.
