BALPA strike action, resulting in reduced or non-existent rescue helicopter provision would mean other SAR assets such as lifeboats and Coastguard Rescue Teams may have to deal with casualty care/medical issues afloat or ashore which is beyond their training and competence. TMAS advice would support such situations until a Healthcare professional can access the casualty. A 6 month arrangement is required to be put in place to mitigate this risk during strike periods.
