The primary purpose of an OSR is to consider supply and demand issues for open space provision across Wigan Borough across a range of typologies including parks and gardens, natural and semi-natural greenspace, amenity greenspace, provision for children and young people, allotments and community gardens, cemeteries and churchyards, and civic spaces. The primary purpose of a PPOSS is to provide a strategic framework which ensures that the provision of outdoor playing pitches and outdoor sports facilities meets the needs of both existing and future residents in the study area.
