An unpaid carer is a person, child or adult who looks after a family member, partner or friend who needs help because of their illness, disability, a mental health diagnosis or an addiction and would not be able to live a good life without support. Carers provide a range of support including personal care, emotional support, help with practical tasks such as shopping and reminding to give medication.
