It was designed as a targeted intervention to address the additional mental health support needs of higher education students in England and Wales caused by the COVID-19 pandemic by securing a fixed-term, coherent, effective and rapidly deployed offer available to all students. It was aimed at addressing the new or exacerbated challenges experienced by some students in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, to fill gaps in support or provision which were also impacted by reduced availability of normal university, college or NHS support services.
