The provision of an effective SF capability supports effective operational employment (through camouflage and markings) and airworthiness through the application of adequate corrosion protection. Alongside this, the MoD must ensure that the required numbers of serviceable Air Systems and ASE are available to support operational output. An efficient, effective, and reliable SF capability supports these availability/capability requirements by reducing maintenance turn-round times. This is achieved by reducing the likelihood of early equipment/component failure and improving mission survivability, maintaining surface finishes to a standard which ensures both high conspicuity for training aircraft, and low conspicuity (camouflaged) for aircraft and ASE undertaking operations.
