The new digital community learning hub will be a space where customers and visitors can experience a wide-ranging offer including: • A library service fit for the 21st Century • A modern learning environment where people can experience educational classes, educational drop-ins, pop up learning experiences and get the support they need to support them in every aspect of their life and in their work • A hub for Cultural activities • A place of historic learning - home to an established and popular local studies collection • A place for 'immersive' experiences and events - such as 'dark skies nights', storytelling experiences • A safe, inclusive and welcoming place to go for all - regardless of ethnicity, age, ability, gender, religion and diversity The existing space is used by the Carlisle Library - the largest library in Cumbria - located in The Lanes Shopping Centre. The space is significant in size at 2,500 m2 and the library is the busiest in the county in terms of footfall. The Council is seeking to appoint a suitably qualified Architect / Interior Designer to design and manage the transformation of Carlisle Library into a Digital Community Hub. The proposed building works may include the stripping out of the existing partitions, fixtures and fittings, mechanical and electrical plant, etc., installation of new partitions, mechanical and electrical plant, ICT infrastructure and redecoration throughout to transform the building into a Digital Community Hub. The works must be constructed to ensure compliance with the latest version of the Building Regulations, together with all necessary planning permissions.
