The required consumables and kits are critical for the SARS-CoV-2 sequencing protocols used by the Genomics Expansion Project. These assays offer the advantage of using a single tube assay, incorporating freeze-dried reagents with long shelf life, to detect 23 respiratory targets whereas competitor multiplex assays will require 4 to 5 multiplexed assays to cover the same range of respiratory targets. In the event of a newly emerging respiratory pathogen, the Luminex assay can quickly incorporate the new target into their repertoire of respiratory pathogens. This is a PHE wide contract, Bristol and Cambridge are currently the main sites for use. However, consumables may be ordered by various laboratories within the Public Health Laboratory network under this contract.
