The current facilities are either non-compliant or fail to meet operational needs in terms of location, access or salt storage capacity which further hampers the service ability to respond to sudden changing weather conditions. A strategic review of the delivery of the statutory requirement for winter maintenance has resulted in the decision to close the current highways salt stores at Mere and Semington and to relocate and enhance the provision in alternative locations.
