The overall Masterplan is to create an area within Hailsham town centre that comprises of retail, leisure, civic and residential areas. By purchasing the Vicarage Fields site in 2017, the Council is largely in control of the land holdings in the area, providing a large influence on the future development of the town centre. Vicarage field is located in the north east of Hailsham town centre, and currently includes within it; Vicarage Field Shopping Centre, Hailsham Parish Church, Wealden District Council Offices, the Freedom Leisure Centre, The Charles Hunt Centre, and the Hailsham Club, as well as areas of the High Street. The site provides an opportunity for Hailsham to experience an overall improved 'town centre experience' by providing permeability to the town.
