This includes 'Computers' and their components. There are a number of reasons why appliances should be (PAT) tested on a regular basis, but the most important ones are: • The Electricity at work regulations 1989; Section 4 (4) Any equipment provided under these regulations for the purpose of protecting persons at work on or near electrical equipment shall be suitable for the use for which it is provided, be maintained in a condition suitable for that use, and be properly used. • To minimise the risk of fire and injury caused by electrical appliances. • To satisfy your insurance company. • To supply Fire Officers and Health and Safety Inspectors with PAT testing certificates and records. Testing engineers will inspect, test and certify all your portable appliances, as covered by the Institute of Electrical Engineers (IEE) Code of Practice, and provide advice as to their condition and safety. A written report, together with a test certificate will be provided as evidence that your portable appliances have had a combined inspection and electrical safety test.
