The Environment Agency wishes to gather up-to-date information on the use and environmental presence of known and suspected EDCs in the UK, so that risk management can be targeted in the most effective way. Parabens are esters of para-hydroxybenzoic acid (also known as 4-hydroxybenzoic acid) and several substances within this chemical group have been identified as endocrine disrupters by some organisations. Several are registered under the REACH Regulation, with uses in cosmetics, personal care products, fragrances, adhesives and sealants.
