It employs 240, based mainly at the head office in Mansfield with some field staff remotely based in order to enable a fast response to incidents in the coal mining areas. The Authority is funded by Grant-in-Aid from the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS). The Authority takes pride in its achievements, quality and motivation of staff, and is focused on delivering its high level objectives. As a non-departmental public body of BEIS, The Authority provides services to governments, public bodies, private organisations and landowners. We also regulate the coal industry in Britain and manage the long term mining legacy approaching £3 billion. Our strategy is to develop our business by realising the value from our people and information, and to seek to continuously improve our capabilities by innovation, organisation capability, efficiency and quality, whilst remaining focused on delivering safely and conserving the environment.
