[More contracts for small businesses and VCSEs](/opportunities/for-small-businesses)## About this tender The National Ballistics Intelligence Service (NaBIS) was launched operationally in autumn 2008 and is managed by the NaBIS Central Administration Team based in West Midlands Police. The service provides fast time, comprehensive intelligence to combat the criminal use of firearms. Forensic experts based at hubs in Birmingham, Glasgow, London and Manchester examine ballistic items for UK police forces to provide key information for investigators, as well as detecting gun crime trends. NABIS holds a registry of recovered firearms and ammunition coming into police possession. It provides a ballistics comparison capability to link crimes and incidents (within 24 hours or faster in urgent cases). NABIS also supports the work of the NPCC Criminal Use of Firearms Portfolio. The NaBIS Database Team work closely with partners including the Home Office, NCA and Border Force to provide a co-ordinated approach to tackling gun crime. NABIS is a key driver for legislative change, offering expertise and best practice advice on firearms related matters nationally and internationally The NABIS Database acts as a registry for all recovered ballistic material by forces and agencies. These include:  Guns;  Cartridge Cases;  Projectiles;  Whole Rounds;  Stun Guns;  CS Spray;  Other firearms related items. The NABIS database is also provides information on people, objects, locations or events that are linked to incidents of gun crime. Additional information: Prospective suppliers can put forward an analyst/developer and suggest the number of days each activity is likely to take within the contract period, or 2 resources, one for each activity. The authority reserves the right to end the contract giving 3 months notice and to extend the contract for additional 12 months on expiry giving 3 months notice.
