The number of people, children and adults, with complex disabilities is increasing and basic disabled toilet facilities that meet legal standards are not meeting their needs. In turn this prevents their ability to visit public places such as shopping, leisure and play area or restricts the period of time they are able to stay. The toilet facilities are to be funded by a capital grant from Gloucestershire County Council and are to comply with Changing Places criteria. This is to ensure that any facility advertised as a Changing Places toilet meets the needs and expectations of the people who use them, with regard to size, space and equipment fit out standards, set out in BS8300.
