The Strategic review of DCMS-Sponsored museums and the wider-reaching Mendoza review of museums also flagged the opportunities digitisation and online access to museum collections offer. DCMS wish to produce a tool to map online collections in England. This will allow connections to be drawn thematically or otherwise between related collections and objects, for gaps to be identified in where digitisation activity has taken place and to what standard, and for the public to understand better the collections held by institutions.
