The Council is responsible for providing safe highways and footways during periods of severe winter weather to enable access for the public to their employment, essential services and local amenities. The Council strives to provide an efficient winter service which will allow traffic to move safely throughout the county and keep delays to a minimum on treated roads. This is in line with the principles set out in the national code of practice 'Well Maintained Highways'.
