There are a number of requirements set in legislation; these include the role of auditor panels, and that auditors have to be registered through the regulation process to be eligible to audit local public bodies. The duties of the auditors are set out in the Act, together with their compliance with the Code of Audit Practice issued by the National Audit Office (NAO). Appointments must be made by 31 December 2016.
