Recommendation four (4) of the Elliott review published in September 2014 focused on the capability of laboratory services in food authenticity testing. It recognised that there were a number of different disciplines and techniques involved in food authenticity testing and recommended the creation of a network of centres of excellence which would help bring together all those involved in authenticity testing to provide a more coherent and coordinated approach covering the range of authenticity techniques.
