This is the first time in more than 30 years that such an exhibition has been brought to a museum in the UK outside London. Visitors will be given a glimpse into the extraordinary story of Qin Shihuangdi, the First Emperor of China (221 to 210 BC). Fragments of clay from his vast burial site were unearthed near Xi'an in North West China in 1974 and subsequently led to the discovery of the now famous terracotta warriors. The Emperor's terracotta warriors will be shown alongside other spectacular artefacts dating from the 6th century BC to the 3nd century AD, along with remarkable new archaeological discoveries. They shed light on the pursuit of immortality and preparations for the afterlife amongst ruling families but also help us to understand more about the imperial court and everyday life in Ancient China. Bidders are asked to submit a formal tender for the 'Environmental Conditioning Equipment' The purchase of new environmental control equipment is required to achieve stable environmental conditions, initially to create stable conditions that will allow the delivery of the 'China's First Emperor and the Terracotta Warriors' Exhibition. Subsequently it is intended that the purchased equipment will be used for future temporary exhibitions and urgent environmental control needs across NML's estate.
