The Housing Act 1996 part 7 and the Homelessness Act 2002 set out the legal responsibilities of Local Authorities (LA) in respect of homeless households. A key duty is the requirement to provide temporary accommodation to homeless households. Emergency interim accommodation is needed to be used by the LA whilst they carry out enquiries to establish what duty is owed to the household. Homeless households can present to the LA 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year.
