It will be used to expand the breadth of machining capabilities and technologies currently at the University and stimulate new research ties across multiple university campuses. The acquisition of this machine will further engender new collaborative research across the University and will enable University researchers to tackle fundamental problems across any discipline where manufactured components may be required in order to conduct experiments or technical analysis. It should  be either a five axis machine or have the capacity to have five axis added to it at a later date.
