Intense bursts of neutrons are produced at 20ms (50 Hz) intervals when a heavy metal target is bombarded by a high-energy (800 MeV) proton beam from a synchrotron accelerator releasing neutrons by the process of spallation. In addition to producing neutrons, ISIS is also the world's most intense source of pulsed muons for studies in materials science. The specification provides detailed information for the requirement of a quantity of THREE DC power supplies to be used to power the Septum magnets associated with the DEVA and EMU muon beamlines.
