For the purpose of this specification counselling is defined as the following: “…a systematic process which gives individuals an opportunity to explore, discover and clarify ways of living more resourcefully, with a greater sense of well being. Counselling may be concerned with addressing and resolving specific problems, making decisions, coping with crises, working through conflict, or improving relationships with others” (Department of Health, 2001) The Council’s Occupational Health team is located in the Corporate Services Department, and is part of the Human Resources Team. The team has specially trained healthcare staff to assist managers, employees and elected members with any problems regarding the impact of work on health and health on work.
