The aim of the service is to facilitate the treatment and rehabilitation of patients through assessing the need and provision of an orthosis to aid comfort, improve function, prevent, correct or protect deformity, relieve discomfort and pain. The service will promote healing and facilitate a service user’s discharge from their medical or surgical service as appropriate. The service includes assessment and reassessment, provision (production and fitting) and the review, repair and maintenance of orthoses. The service provision should be explicitly linked to the strategic aims of accident prevention and independence. Good quality footwear supports independence in the community and helps to prevent accidents. The CCGs are looking for a service which will identify areas for improvement through innovation, to help design a seamless and integrated service to deliver good outcomes to the patients of Northamptonshire.
