It is a core component of the GB national transport information infrastructure and is used by a number of other GB standards and information systems. More details on NaPTAN can be found at [gov.uk](https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/national-public-transport-access-node-schema). The Department has responsibility for creating and maintaining NaPTAN data for rail stations, airports, ferry terminals and light rail/tram metro stations, and the means to create and edit, then upload this data to the NaPTAN database is required when changes to the data are made. A system is therefore needed to carry out this function in order to maintain accurate NaPTAN data. The purpose of the procurement is to put in place a contract for a software tool that will enable the creation and maintenance of NaPTAN data for the Department for Transport.
