The work also has the potential to improve the safety and efficiency of all petroleum tankers, and to better regulation. The research will likely include a peer review of existing work, the commissioning of various tests, detailed engineering analysis and technical assessments of the test and theoretical results, and also of any weld procedures developed for proposed modifications. Research activities are subject to modification in response to findings as the work progresses.
