Currently, it is well established that single particle ICPMS can be used to determine the number and size of nanoparticles in standards however, problems arise with samples where the quantity of nanomaterials is unknown because appropriate dilution of sample is required such that the nanomaterials enter the ICP-MS singly and sufficient enter over the analysis time for a representative analysis of the rage of nanomaterials present.
