A number of national documents have highlighted the importance of its role and recommended pulmonary rehabilitation for appropriate people. The Department of Health's Outcomes Strategy for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and Asthma and the subsequent NHS Companion Document states that pulmonary rehabilitation should be provided for all people with COPD with an MRC score of three or above. The aim of the service is to provide'pre - hab' and community pulmonary rehabilitation (level 2) to eligible patients across Newcastle upon Tyne, as part of the COPD patient pathway. The service will enable the best possible outcomes for patients to improve their quality of life and reduce their symptoms.
