The DB-TAL requires 576 dipoles to steer the beam along its length. Each of these dipoles will have a nominal strength of 1.6 T, and will be able to reduce the field down to 0.8 T. The prototype will be somewhat smaller, generating a maximum field of around 1.0 T. The dipoles are based on a moving permanent magnet concept, allowing the magnet strength to be adjusted to keep the beam focused correctly.
