The project has three main aims: - to maintain an ‘ark’ facility for threatened English pearl mussel populations to safeguard against further local extinction, - to subsequently breed from captive individuals in order to release juveniles and/or encysted fish back to the wild as part of reintroduction programmes, and - to carry out research into rearing juvenile mussels and reintroduction techniques.
