The reason for the VEAT notice was due to: "There was a palliative treatment called Strontium that could be used for bone pain, however this involved some significant side-effects and hence it has not been used for a number of years. This new treatment (Radium 223) has been shown to significantly improve overall survival for this group of patients. (ALSYMPCA trial). Currently these patients are either sent elsewhere for the same treatment, or they do not receive treatment.
