The facility provides the GLA with the ability to independently determine the suitability of lights for aids-to-navigation purposes, as well as building a unique database of performance measurements of lights in optical systems installed at lighthouses. The measurement systems and processes employed are relatively simple, but working together, they form a sophisticated semi-automatic light measurement process. The data acquisition hardware at the heart of the measurement processes is the same for all facilities, but it is no longer supported by the manufacturer.
