They allow children and young people to have independence and social opportunities away from their families whilst giving parents/carers a break from their caring roles and responsibilities. Targeted short break activities can also provide opportunities for the whole family to enjoy activities together. Since April 2025 Stoke-on-Trent City Council has commissioned Targeted Short Break Activities for children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) via a framework. The framework in due to re-open for new providers to join from 1st April 2026.
